Hum of the Sun - EPSS Alum Featured on NASA's Curious Universe Podcast

EPSS alum and researcher Mike Hartinger was recently featured on NASA's Curious Universe Podcast, providing an entertaining overview of heliophysics through a conversation on musical instruments such as the "magnetic harp" around our planet. Listening to the sounds in space can help us better understand space weather — the behavior of plasmas and particles from the sun— but we need the public's help to learn more!

Listen to the podcast to find out how you can get involved and potentially help discover new types of plasma waves; the episode summary is displayed below, alongside a link to listen!

Hum of the Sun

What does space sound like? It’s a question that has fascinated composers and scientists alike throughout history. Through a process called data sonification, heliophysicists are using NASA satellites like audio recorders to listen to the electromagnetic symphony our Sun plays on the strings of Earth’s magnetic field, and making new discoveries along the way. Learn how you can join heliophysicist Mike Hartinger and sonification specialist Robert Alexander in listening to Earth’s “magnetic harp” in a new NASA citizen science initiative.
